For example, the popular IвЂ“VвЂ“VImвЂ“IV progression will have the same theory behind it whether itвЂ™s played in the key of C, the key of Ab or the key of F#. Writing chord progressions in Roman numerals is useful for music theory analysis because it decouples the chord progression from the key. A C | Dm | Em | F chord progression could be written as I |В IImВ | IIIm | IV. The I chord represents the root note, the II chord represents the chord built from the second interval, the III represents the third diatonic chord, and so on. In music theory, Roman numerals can be used to represent chords independent of which key they are being played in. IвЂ™ll also look at how they craft their melodies to fit in with their more unusual chord progressions. This article focuses solely on Depeche ModeвЂ™s songwriting, looking at seven Depeche Mode songs and analysing the music theory behind their chord progressions. With Gore in charge of songwriting and composing, Depeche ModeвЂ™s music started to explore darker themes and chord progressions.ДЄ big part of Martin GoreвЂ™s songwriting style is using minor chords and keys as well as swapping chords that would usually be major chords with minor chords. Their debut album Speak & SpellВ has a happy, light sound, but after Vince ClarkeвЂ™s sudden departure Martin Gore took over as the primary songwriter. I was also allotted a great chance to see Poe live, as she opened for them the second time I saw them. I eventually did, twice, and they were just as amazing as I thought they would be. It was an awesome prospect to see them live.

While I had been to a few other concerts before Depeche Mode, namely the Monkees when I was 14, knowing that they were still touring and releasing new albums just gave me something to be excited for. But I think after hearing a few of the songs and clicking with me, it just gave me the drive to put pen to paper with vigor. Mind you I was already writing before I вЂњdiscoveredвЂќ them. Hence, they inspired me to write and write with passion. They were able to put into words what I could not. Whenever I needed to express those emotions, they provided the background music. Depeche Mode was, and still is really, my calming salve. An angsty teenager, not a lot of friends, bullied and hating oneself. I think mainly due to their darker overtones in the music and lyrics. So, in this special edition of my TOP 5, I have ten songs to present to you.Дepeche Mode have been a constant for me since high school.

It is impossible to put a number on the great songs they have. It just confirms that they are my favorite band. Then I started to go back and listen to the songs to properly rate them. When I went in to write this list, I initially was going to do my normal top five.
